REVA NXR AND NXG

The Spark also comes in a CNG model in Chevy’s portfolio. The Spark Electra will go into production by 2011. The price of this electric Spark will be at the higher-end considering the feasibility of electric cars in India.
 MAHINDRA SCORPIO HYBRID
Mahindra Scorpio HybridSUV maker Mahindra & Mahindra is also set to try its hands at making hybrid cars. It has already designed a micro hybrid Scorpio keeping in mind the Indian market. The Hybrid Scorpio will carry a diesel-electric engine. It will come with a 2.2L 4-cylinder common rail diesel engine (CRDe) that can provide 115 bhp. The engine also has a complementary 288-volt NiMH battery. The Hybrid Scorpio is expected to launch in the United States in 2010 and will be displayed at the Auto Show.
TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID
Toyota Prius HybridJapanese car behemoth Toyota will be launching its much-acclaimed Prius Hybrid in India at the Auto Expo 2010. This car is a big hit with Hollywood celebrities and will certainly wow the Mumbai Cine world community as well. The Prius will come to India as Completely Built Unit (CBU) and will be taxed above 100 per cent. This means that the price prices would be above Rs 20 Lakh. The Prius will carry a 98 bhp 1.8-litre petrol engine that is supplemented by a 36 bhp electric motor. The car will grace showrooms in mid-2010.
TATA NANO ELECTRIC AND HYBRID
Tata Nano Electric and HybridTata Motors will be coming out with an electric version as well as a hybrid variant of its most talked-about small car, the Nano. At this point, nothing is much known about the development of the electric and hybrid versions of the Tata Nano. But we are sure that it will hit the market by 2012. A prototype of the electric and hybrid version of the Nano will be displayed next month at the Auto Show.
TATA INDICA VISTA ELECTRIC
Tata Indica Vista ElectricTata Motors is also considering in bringing out an electric version of the Indian Vista hatchback. The car is under development and testing in Norway. The Tata Indica Vista Electric will be launched in India at the same time as it will be launched in the markets of Europe. The company will make a market study for the car before they introduce it in 2011. But Tata Motors will surely display the Indica Vista EV at the Auto Expo 2010.
HYUNDAI I10 EV
Hyundai i10 EVHyundai’s flagship model i10 now comes in an electric version. In fact, if you remember well, it was showcased at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Now, Hyundai will be introducing the electric version of the popular Hyundai i10 at the upcoming Auto Expo next month. The i10 EV is an all-electric zero-emission car. The Hyundai i10 EV is said to be unveiled in India by none other than Hyundai’s brand ambassador Shah Rukh Khan! But remember, there is a difference between an unveiling and a launch! It would be great if Hyundai really brings in the i10 EV to India. The rumour mill says that the Hyundai i10 electric car will have a 66 bhp electric motor.
HONDA CR-Z HYBRID
Honda CR-Z HybridJapanese car major Honda will be bringing the CR-Z Hybrid Concept to view in India. The CR-Z hybrid sportscar concept was displayed at the Tokyo Motor Show in October. Honda is unlikely to launch this car in India as it has had enough from the Civic Hybrid car. The CR-Z will be the first hybrid car to come with a 6-speed manual transmission. It will be launched in Japan in February and hit the US market in the third quarter of 2010.

As Audi A1 deliveries get underway today in Germany, Senner Tuning is quick to unveil a modest performance package for the Audi A1.

Under the hood, the company offers a revised ECU (€899) for the 1.6-liter TDI. It enables the engine to produce 103 kW (140 PS / 138 hp) and 310 Nm (229 lb-ft) of torque - an increase of 26 kW (35 PS / 35 hp) and 60 Nm (44 lb-ft).

Other goodies include a KW suspension, a stainless-steel dual exhaust (€889), and 18-inch Barracuda Voltec T6 wheels with Hankook S1 Evo tires (€1,599).

Inside, customers can order leather upholstery, carbon fiber trim, and various other accessories

i-MiEV's total cost of ownership might be higher than expected


For years now, some electric vehicle advocates have argued that despite the higher up-front cost of batteries, plug-in cars would be cheaper to own and operate in the long run. The problem was, until the Tesla Roadster came along a couple of years ago, there were no factory-built and sold electric vehicles (EVs) to gather any real evidence from. The real test will begin in the next few months when Nissan, General Motors, Mitsubishi, Ford and others start to sell EVs to the masses.

Two big factors really can't be argued against right now. Even with government incentives, EVs will be more expensive to buy than an equivalent internal combustion vehicle and energizing them from the grid will cost less. However, one of the big arguments against buying most new cars, regardless of power plant, has been that they lose a good chunk of their value as soon as you drive them off the lot. The rate of depreciation varies widely and is often connected to how well they hold up after several years on the road. A typical car might be worth half or less of its original value after just five years.

How will this affect plug-in cars? With an EV, the battery pack often accounts for a much larger percentage of the car's original value other types of vehicles. While an engine that has been maintained properly can easily exhibit most of its original performance after 100,000 miles – and many can often go 200,000 miles or more – the same cannot reliably be said (yet, as far as we know) of a battery in an EV. The reality is that no one really knows how much value a battery will retain after 50,000 or 100,000 miles. It's a hard number to calculate. Nissan has said that the Leaf battery might only hold 80 or 70 percent of its original charge after ten years, for example, which will make it worth less. Speaking to the BBC, Mitsubishi has acknowledged that the i-MiEV's depreciation over three years could turn out to be more than the original cost of an internal combustion car (a Fiat 500 Lounge 1.2 petrol, in the example given). That's a tough bunch of numbers.

Kia plan for Ecodynamics branding in U.S.A


When Kia Motors unveiled its EcoDynamics sub-brand at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show, the company claimed its new badge would begin to appear on U.S.-bound models soon. In fact, Kia promised that its eco-friendly moniker would be attached to several models sold worldwide. Now, Orth Hedrick, director-product planning at Kia Motors America, tells Ward's Auto that the company has nixed plans to introduce the EcoDynamics name in the U.S. Hedrick cited cost issues as the primary reason for the company's reversal, stating:

    The issue is it's yet another brand. And given the fact we're trying to allocate our resources to other areas that make the most sense, does it make sense to introduce another brand out there?

The U.S. automotive market, in its still-depressed state, simply cannot support additional brands. The Detroit Three have pared down by axing Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer and Mercury, so Kia's move to drop EcoDynamics fits the trend. Jim Hume of Phire Branding Co. says Kia's decision makes sense. Hume told Ward's:

    My guess is that they realized the concept of EcoDynamics created not only another brand, but also created the need to educate consumers – an expensive proposition. In this particular case the delineation is tricky. Kia setting apart Earth-friendly vehicles via a sub-brand may have taken away from any Earth-friendly story in Kia-branded vehicles. It is better to highlight everything Kia is doing under one strong brand umbrella.

Though the EcoDynamics badge will not adorn Kia's U.S.-bound models, the fuel-saving innovations and other elements that were to be featured under the new sub-brand are already appearing on some Kia models headed to dealerships across the nation.

Next Generation Ford Focus Under Testing

Ford Motors is testing the next generation Ford Focus under extremely trying conditions of mountainous terrains of Austrian Alps. Ford has introduced Figo as its small car hatchback model in India. It has slowly ramped down Focus from the Indian domestic market but the next generation model of Ford Focus is being developed under One Ford program which means that Ford may re-introduce its new small model in the emerging markets as well.
