Audi presents the re-designed A4 and S4 models
• The allroad quattro returns to the U.S. for the first time in 7 years
• Highest levels of integrated connectivity and driver assistance systems in the segment with Audi connect™
Audi brings intelligent technologies, efficiency, exhilarating driving dynamics, state-of-the-art infotainment and new design elements to the best-selling Audi A4 series for the 2013 model year. Now in its eighth generation, the Audi A4 – known for its progressive design, sportiness and efficient performance – is available in Sedan and sporty S4 models, and – making its re-entry into the U.S. market – the iconic Audi allroad quattro.
The chassis of the A4 is striking with its sporty precision, high ride comfort and superior safety. Aluminum components of the five-link front suspension and the trapezoidal-link rear suspension provide responsive handling and are optimized to reduce weight. The electromechanical power steering is new in all models of the series and requires no energy for straight-ahead motion, thereby reducing emissions of up to 11g/mile. In addition, it is lighter than the previous hydraulic steering system further improving efficiency through its reduced weight.
Exclusive to Audi, the A4 model also features Audi drive select, a system that adjusts the vehicle's transmission shift characteristics, throttle response, and dynamic steering. On the S4, the Audi drive select system can also control the adaptive damping suspension and quattro sport differential. Audi drive select offers 27 distinct driving configurations, allowing drivers to configure vehicle drive characteristics exactly to their liking with their choice of Comfort, Auto, Dynamic or Individual settings.
The Audi A4 series has a striking new exterior design with accentuated horizontal lines, arched engine hood, tapered upper corners of the single frame grill, and three-dimensionally highlighted cross ribs and Audi rings. The A4 has redesigned bumpers with angular air inlets, revised grille, and rectangular front fog lights. The allroad quattro is easily recognizable with its flared wheel arches, vertical chrome struts in the grille, and round fog lights. The headlights have also been redesigned both in terms of their exterior shape and the arrangement of the lighting elements. The unmistakable LED daytime running lights have been redesigned and make the A4 instantly recognizable.
The interior of the A4 models has also been refined, with reconfigured climate and infotainment controls, and exclusive wood inlays. The switchgear, steering wheel, and instrument panel have also been enhanced with chrome and high-gloss applications. The result is a further strengthening of the benchmark interior on the A4.
All interior colors – except black – have been re-coordinated and the upholstery range has been revised with Fine Nappa leather. Inlays are now available in Aluminum Trigon, Walnut dark brown, fine grain Ash natural, and layered Oak. The interior of the S line sport package comes in black, refined with high-quality applications. 17-inch wheels are standard on the A4, 18-inch wheels are standard on the S4 and allroad, and 19-inch wheels are optional on all carlines.
The A4 Sedan’s luggage compartment has 17 cubic feet of space, and 34 cubic feet with the seats folded down. The A4 allroad quattro has 28 cubic feet of space and 50 cubic feet with the seats folded down, respectively. An electrically-operated tailgate is available for the allroad.
Audi offers several advanced technology features for the A4 family, including adaptive front lighting and Audi side assist, which monitors the space behind and beside the A4 by radar and detects any vehicles in the neighboring lanes. Driving in the A4 is also enhanced by the optional Driver Assistance package, which features adaptive cruise control that keeps the A4 at a constant distance from the preceding vehicle, active lane assist, and dynamic steering. Dynamic steering varies the effort as well as the steering ratio. Active lane assist allows the steering to help maintain lane discipline should the driver begin to sway outside of the lane markings without setting the turn signal.
Audi is the first company worldwide to feature factory-installed wireless internet, enabling the innovative infotainment system called Audi connect™. Previously available in the A6, A7, A8 and Q7, Audi connect will now be available on all A4 models, making Audi the only brand worldwide to feature this level of integrated connectivity in the B segment.
With Audi connect, the onboard MMI® Navigation system is enhanced with Google Earth™ maps and real-time SiriusXM Traffic information, for a true aerial view of the route. Audi connect also features real-time localized weather, news and live fuel prices; Google Local Search for detailed information about travel destinations, such as restaurant or hotel hours, pricing and customer reviews; the myAudi Destination feature, which allows registered users to log on to Google Maps™ from any location and download up to 50 destinations to the vehicle; and a rolling Wi-Fi hotspot, allowing up to eight Wi-Fi-enabled devices to simultaneously use the wireless connectivity.

Audi of America, Inc. and its U.S. dealers offer a full line of German-engineered luxury vehicles. AUDI AG is among the most successful luxury automotive brands globally. Audi was a top-performing luxury brand in Europe during 2011, and broke all-time company sales records in the U.S. Through 2016, AUDI AG will invest about $17 billion on new products and technologies. Visit www.audiusa.com or www.audiusanews.com for more information regarding Audi vehicle and business issues.
All three S cars are debuting Audi’s new 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8. The S7 shares its engine tune with the S6 sedan and Avant, in which the eight makes 420 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. The S8 will use the same engine, but dialed up to 520 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque to move its extra heft—and to warrant the greater investment. Both derivatives of the V-8 feature fuel-saving tech with stop-start functionality and a cylinder-deactivation system that will shut down four cylinders under lighter loads. The latter prompted Audi to install an active noise-cancellation system that uses four microphones in the headliner to analyze cabin noise and then employs the audio system’s speakers to counteract any plebian four-cylinder sounds.
A seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic will be the only transmission available in the S7, with the standard Quattro all-wheel-drive system feeding power to the ground. The optional torque-vectoring rear differential will further aid performance. Audi estimates the S7 will reach 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds, which we’ll call very conservative, considering we scooted to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds in the regular 310-hp A7. Top speed is limited to 155 mph.
The styling, while very sleek and sexy in standard A7 form, hardly differs on the S7. Nineteen-inch wheels are standard, with other sets of 19s and 20s available. Behind the rollers are matte-black brake calipers wearing S7 logos. Carbon-ceramic discs are available. Just a few other subtle details point to the S7’s zesty purpose, among them a V8T fender badge, quad exhaust tips, and aluminum accents on the front fascia, side-mirror housings, and rear diffuser.
It’s the same story inside, where there are few upgrades over the A7. Perhaps the biggest change is the standard sport seats with embossed S logos (regular chairs are available). U.S. details aren’t available yet, but at least in Europe, the handsome interior can be optioned with your choice of three upholstery colors, with four different trim materials to accent. In addition to the standard xenon headlamps and LED running lights, the usual groupings of high-tech extras will be available, including navigation with Google Earth overlays.
The Indian subsidiary of the German luxury auto giant, Audi has kick started the year 2012 with highly impressive sales figures in the first quarter that dominated the sales volume of the second leading premium brand, Mercedes-Benz. In the month of April 2012, Audi India witnessed a sales jump of nearly 50 percent rising from 375 units sold in April last year to 562 units sold in the corresponding month this year.
The Volkswagen Group owned automaker has revealed that in the first four months in 2012, the sales growth have been measured as 43 percent and during this period under review, the sales surged from 1986 units in the last year to 2831 units sold in this year.
After being positioned as second in the league of premium car makers in India, Mr. Michael Perschke, Head of Audi India, was quoted as saying, "2012 is proving to be a great year for Audi in India. Not only are we achieving spectacular growth month on month, we also made a strong statement of intent by achieving the No.2 position in the Indian luxury car market, in the first quarter itself."
He further added that the growth in sales quantum was majorly contributed by Audi A8, Audi A7 Sportback and Audi A6 coupled with effective dealer distribution network.
The German automaker had recently launched Audi TT, a two door sports coupe that has been receiving rising demand in the country. Audi India is confident that with the launch of the much awaited next generation A4 and the upcoming launch of Q3 in June 2012, the market stand of the company will be further strengthened.
